26th December 2004 Tsunami which was devastated

Tsunami recovery 'impressive,' - Oxfam

key findings of the Oxfam report include:
By 2007, 1.4 million people will have been lifted out of the tsunami-induced poverty.
84 per cent of the fishing boats destroyed in Sri Lanka have been rebuilt or replaced.
Sri Lanka's fish catch is at 70 per cent of its level prior to the tsunami.
Thousands of hectares of land have been desalinated and salt-resistant plants introduced.
The report also identifies some of the continuing problems for the more than 600,000 people who remain impoverished. Some aid efforts are misdirected or are not having the desired impact.
For instance, some fishing communities have been given new land that is too far away from the sea to sustain their livelihoods, according to the report. In other cases, the speed of recovery is dictated by Mother Nature, as in the cases of some farm land, where it will take up to five years for soil to return to full productivity.

Machan I’m not a fan of Politics... recently i went to down south....I cldn’t believe my eyes. i was amazed to see the developments under the new president. He is doing a lot. I actually don’t know whts happening in the north and east…,… But he is doing a lot compare to the previous leader. One different is there is not publicity.. But everything is happening and going well…

I feel most of the our people are still suffering from the after effects of tsunami.. Its hard to forget everything. One major disaster of the last century.
