Are you proud to be a Sri Lankan...?

Look around your country… see the natural heritage and the beautiful environment God has given us to the 20 million Sri Lankans. The Sandy beeches, from the coastal belt to the rocky mountains in the hill country with the cooling breeze. From a just 5hr journey one could be in a cold whether climate from a hot whether climate in the coastal belt.
God has blessed Sri Lanka with a rich heritage and a culture that is second to no other countries in the region.

Our country has natural resources that even Japan and Singapore doesn’t have. In 1950’s and in 1960’s Japan and Singapore were looking at Sri Lanka as a model country, because at that time our per capita was much higher than of Japan and Singapore. Even India and countries like the US wanted to have a claim in our country since the world largest natural harbors which is situated in Trincomalee. The other beautiful beeches were spread from Negombo, Colombo Mount Lavinia. Galle, Matara, Hikkaduwa Hambantota and to even to Batticaloa. Passikudar Ampara, Trincomalee. And from the Northern areas we could take Jaffna, Malativu Elephant Pass, Pooneryn, Mannar.

When one look at the inland of our country, we can mention of Siriya rock fortress which is known to be the eighth wonder of the world. Which is a pictorious thing to view from the breathtaking vie it gives. Also the Dambula Rock Temple and the Kandalama Hotel which is a Aitken Spence Hotel designed by the Sri Lankan born architect Jeffery Bawa. The man made lakes by our ancient kings Parakrama Samudhraya and the Senanayake Samudhraya. Hill capital in Kandy which was the last kingdom was. The Dalada Maligawa where the tooth relic is kept.. The world end where you can get another breath taking view from the Nuwara-Eliya, and the Lipton ‘Seat in Haputale. Ella gap in Ella. You could have adventurous sports in Adventure Park in Ella which you never like to miss out on, you could hike in Hiking you also could go and visit the Sinharaja Forest where it has species where you can not find any where else in the country. The Yala, Udawalawe, Sithawaka, Kumana, Hadapangala, Wilpaththu Sanctuaries with the rare elephants, leopards, crocodiles, deer, peacocks. Also the botanical gardens in Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya which is another scenic beauty in our country.

A great Hymn writer Walter Senior wrote

“To him our Land shall listen
To him our land shall kneel
All rule be on his shoulders
All wrong beneath his heel
O Conservation glories
Which now by faith we sing
Come, cast we up the highway
That brings us back the King..”

Even Japan and Singapore did not have such natural resources as we have. But they have done better than we have. In the recent decades. They took our country as an example in 960’s as were were much ahead in the per capita income and we were much developed than them. What was then we couldn’t capitalize on this and we were lagging behind?? The answer to this is our society is very lethargic and the other thing is because of the ethnic war that has put our country behind. If not for the ruthless war we could have done much more better.

As the New Year dawns in another couple of days I may wish our country a prosperous and a bright future without a war.

Lessons from the achievments of Japan........

You may think that Sri Lanka is does not have the ability to creat jobs and do well in the economic and sociall fronts. but its not the case, as we as undergraduates could see. its has the ability to create miracles IF people are energertic and will work to achieve that goal definitely Sri lanka could do much more than Singapore or Maldives.

Japan after the world war when its country got destroyed from the Hiroshima & Nagasaki bombs, they started to re-build the country not only to that coountry it self but to rest of the world. That's why today their economy is so much developed and technology is advanced comparing with us. Did they have enough natural resources as we have? The answer is definitely NO.
They invented products to whole world by improving on quality products. they saved millions by not spending on R&D as european countries and the States did R&D for them and they did what the research showed where the potential was.
Take Motor vehicles (TOYOTA, NISSAN, MITHSUBISHI) Electronics and electrical equipments such as (SONY, PANASONIC, NATIONAL) a big market was created by the Japanese investors by exporting to all the european and asian countries as well as countries in the states. while european countries and the USA spend millions on & R&D the japanese took the maximum use of its findings.
In our case we only created products to only catered to our local population, where the mistake was...if we had clearly envisaged the far sighted approach we could have far ahead of Singapore Japan & China. In 1950's and 1960's Japan & Singapore was looking at us as an example for development. Now what has happened? Now we have to beg to other developed nations.
Actually to ask you what went wrong?? the answer to this is our past leaders didnt have a vision but they were only hungry for power.

26th December 2004 Tsunami which was devastated

Tsunami recovery 'impressive,' - Oxfam

key findings of the Oxfam report include:
By 2007, 1.4 million people will have been lifted out of the tsunami-induced poverty.
84 per cent of the fishing boats destroyed in Sri Lanka have been rebuilt or replaced.
Sri Lanka's fish catch is at 70 per cent of its level prior to the tsunami.
Thousands of hectares of land have been desalinated and salt-resistant plants introduced.
The report also identifies some of the continuing problems for the more than 600,000 people who remain impoverished. Some aid efforts are misdirected or are not having the desired impact.
For instance, some fishing communities have been given new land that is too far away from the sea to sustain their livelihoods, according to the report. In other cases, the speed of recovery is dictated by Mother Nature, as in the cases of some farm land, where it will take up to five years for soil to return to full productivity.

Freedom to practise in any religion of choice, without any interference

I would like to comment, on the action taken by the President Rajapakshe who told that any one could freely practise their religion without any involvement. this is a good action that the president have taken recently. But He should have appointed different ministries to look into the greviences the faiths had into implementing the practising their faiths. like one Minister to look into Christian affirs, one for Buddhism Hinduism and Islamism (Muslim) need by the govt to take any action in relating to any situation arising from time to time.

A country like Sri lanka where Multi- Cultural , Munlti- Ethinical & a Multi -Religious community lives with peace and harmony this is a good start. Also the Government should provide assistance when needed in at an emergency.

wishing all visitors who visit this Site a blessed Christmas and a Prosperous New Year without Hatred, Evil but a Peace, Love and Joy be with you for ever and ever.

Hope there will not be a War again in Sri Lanka that all communities could live in dignity with all communities.

What are your comments on the Anti-conversion bill that was supposed to come ??
will this be a good course of action if it was brought? Or shouldn't it be there? be as it is now....
your comments are most welcome....

"Let there be PEACE on Earth
and let it begin with me,
Let there be peace on earth
the peace that was meant to be
To share each moment
To live each moment
In perfect harmony.
Let there Be peace on earth
And let it begin with me..."
